Wood was born in Oklahoma and studied photography with Edward Weston in 1949 & 1950. He became the assistant Curator of Photography at the Taylor Museum in Colorado Springs.
Woods photos are in the Metropolitan Museum and Museum of Modern Art in New York, and museums throughout the Southwest. He is most known for his photographs of Georgia O'Keefe and her home, and for photographic documentation of the Penitente Brotherhood of Northern New Mexico.
