Battery Bird Necklaces
(Item: 10975A&B)
These fanciful necklaces are depression era products of the Santo Domingo Pueblo. During this period, the conditions of poverty were particularly severe in the New Mexican pueblos and the ingenious Indians were able to make jewelry from found and scrap materials such as car battery casings, thick phonograph records, scrap plastic such as combs and turquoise chips left over from the crafting of other jewelry. The birds vary from 1 1/2" to 2" and are in mint condition. The necklaces are priced at $250 each.
