Oil on canvas board. This little gem measures just under 5"x9" and is signed lower
left. We think it would benefit from a cleaning. It's fresh from
a local estate and we have not touched it. It is framed in an ornate "gold frame" which
was cut down and is not pictured. Many of his paintings were done in this small format and
these pieces have historically sold well at auction.(see Art Price Index)
Edward Hill was born in England in 1843 and died in Oregon in 1923. He is most noted for
his paintings of New Hampshire scenery. He did travel west and shared a studio in San Francisco
with his brother Thomas Hill and is an uncle of Edward Rufus Hill.
