RELATED: The Best Disposable Diapers

Our Verdict

Babies R Us Supreme diapers are budget-friendly and performed better than the average diaper for absorption and leakage, but this product makes no effort to limit possible irritants from their diapers, and they didn't score well in our analysis for environmental impact. Despite being a cheaper diaper and fairly good at doing what a diaper is supposed to do, we feel there are better diapers for baby's health in a similar price range that at least make an effort to limit the impact of disposable diapers on the Earth. However, if budget is a concern then the Babies R Us diaper is one to consider which is why it won a Best Value award.

Update — April 2018
Babies R Us is going out of business and their Supreme diaper is no longer available for sale online and will soon be out of stock at brick and mortar retailers as well.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Babies R Us is a nationwide subsidiary of the Toys R Us store that sells all things baby from clothing to cribs and just about everything in between. The baby retailer also offers a variety of goods marketed under their brand label including diapers, wipes, and formula. These products are often cheaper than their brand name counterparts, and Babies R Us claims equal or better functionality and design when compared to leading brands. Toys R Us and Babies R Us appear in over 880 stores in the US, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

Likes

The Babies R Us diaper performed fairly well in our tests for leakage and absorption. This diaper earned a 7 of 10 for both metrics, which is only one point below the high for leakage and 3 points below the high for absorption. Given the lower price, it compares well to other similarly priced options.

During testing for absorption, this diaper had some transfer of moisture to the test paper with results that were consistent across the tests indicating a consistent quality not found in all the products we tested. For leaks, it scored fairly well in our run-off test though there was some mock urine in the test pan as it couldn't absorb the “pee” fast enough indicating a potential for leaking. In our online research, about 24% of the lower scoring reviews mentioned leaks as a concern.

We also like the price of this diaper with a lower price per diaper than the majority of the competition and only a handful of the 24 products we looked at costing less. With a price of $0.17 per diaper, it can be tough to beat the price if budget is a top concern. We gave this diaper a Best Value award for this reason.

This diaper also earned an average score of 7 of 10 for comfort indicating it is more comfortable than some of the options we tested. While not a strong like, we do think it deserves a mention for having the nicest elastic we tested and relatively skin-friendly motion points and closure tabs. The fabric back and liner are not the softest, which hurt the overall comfort score but this option is still cozy enough for most little ones.

Dislikes

Like most popular name brand disposable diapers, this product doesn't have much to offer in the way of nods to baby's health or the environment. This diaper earned a 1 of 10 for both metrics because it failed to provide a full disclosure of ingredients and how it is made. Also, Babies R Us also doesn't use renewable or sustainable resources, nor do they provide information on possible biodegradability and recyclable packaging. This diaper doesn't even list itself as chlorine free, something most disposable diapers are leaning toward both for the Earth and baby. Babies R Us also doesn't list if it is perfume, lotion, dye, or latex free leaving us to assume it is not. If your baby has sensitive skin, there is a possible chance that this diaper could be more likely to cause a diaper rash than those options that strive to avoid the use of known irritants.

Conclusion

Babies R Us is a store brand disposable diaper that has a nice price and is good with leaks. This average diaper performed well in our tests for absorption and had fairly good reviews in our online research, but it failed at the health and ecology metrics which are growing in importance for many parents. While it doesn't appear as though there are any attempts to limit possible irritants or to decrease impact on the environment, it does function well for the price making it a good choice for families with a limited budget.
